FINE CIGAR FUTURES
What Are Cigar Futures?
En primero or "cigar futures", is a method of purchasing cigars early while the cigar has been rolled but is still being held in the “aging room” by the maker. This offers the customer the opportunity to invest in limited release cigars that are typically aged for 1-5 years before their official release on the market. Payment is made at an early stage, 6 months or 18 months prior to the official release of the cigar on the market. An advantage of buying cigars en primero is that the cigar may be considerably cheaper during the en primero period than they will be once released to the market.

How It Works
“Example of En Primero for a 2 yr Aged Cigar”
Cigars Are Rolled & Aged
The finest cigars are hand picked after being rolled by a master “torcedor”. Once boxed and carefully stored, the cigars are left to age where the tobacco flavours begin to “marry”. Overtime the flavours distribute more evenly throughout the cigar, making it mellowed and blended. Complexity will emerge as layers and combinations of flavour materialize that were once hidden.
1 Year After Rolling
Cigars Are Tasted, Scored, & Ready for Pre-Sale
After 1 year of aging, our team visits each producer and randomly selects 1 cigar from a vintage batch. Cigars are collected from all over the world and prepared to be presented to a panel of judges for a blind tasting. The original cigar band is removed by a “coordinator” to ensure that there is no prejudice. Each cigar is then numbered and coded. The judges rate the cigars by construction, quality, draw, burn, taste and complexity. Finally, the cigars are scored and placed for pre-sale on enprimero.com.
